Amylase Isoenzymes

Identifies whether amylase is derived from pancreas or salivary glands; helps to better understand amylase elevation.

About

The Amylase Isoenzymes panel breaks down total amylase into its two main sources—pancreatic and salivary—to help pinpoint the cause of elevated amylase levels. While standard amylase tests can signal a problem, they don’t reveal where it’s coming from. This panel distinguishes between issues in the pancreas (such as pancreatitis) and the salivary glands (such as mumps or blockages).

It’s especially useful if you’re experiencing unexplained digestive symptoms, abdominal pain, or abnormal amylase levels on prior tests. By identifying the specific source of enzyme elevation, this panel helps guide more accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment for both gastrointestinal and glandular conditions.

3 Biomarkers Included

Amylase
A digestive enzyme that breaks down starch into sugars and helps diagnose pancreatic and salivary gland conditions.
Pancreatic Amylase
A digestive enzyme produced by the pancreas, essential for carbohydrate breakdown and a key marker of pancreatic health.
Salivary Amylase
A digestive enzyme produced by the salivary glands, essential for carbohydrate breakdown and a key marker of salivary gland health.
