5a-DHT Test

A potent androgen that reflects conversion of testosterone into tissue active forms.

About 5a-DHT

5 alpha dihydrotestosterone is formed when testosterone is converted by the enzyme 5 alpha reductase. DHT binds androgen receptors more strongly than testosterone and drives tissue specific effects in the prostate, skin, and hair follicles. Elevated levels may contribute to acne, scalp hair loss, or prostate enlargement, while low levels may impair sexual function and strength. This marker reflects enzyme activity rather than testosterone production alone.
