Shiga-like Toxin E. coli stx2 Test

A high-risk bacterial toxin gene linked to severe systemic complications.

About Shiga-like Toxin E. coli stx2

The stx2 toxin is more strongly associated with severe disease and kidney injury than stx1. It damages endothelial cells lining blood vessels and can lead to anemia, low platelets, and acute kidney failure. Even small amounts can have serious consequences, especially in children and older adults. Detection indicates a need for cautious clinical decision-making and supportive care. Antibiotic therapy is generally avoided in these cases.
