Carotid Ultrasound
Carotid Ultrasound
A duplex ultrasound of the neck arteries that carry blood to the brain, both sides: the blood flow velocities in the common and internal carotid arteries and the ratio between them, the numbers that grade any narrowing.
What's included
10 biomarkers included
Right Common Carotid Artery PSV
The highest speed blood reaches during the pumping phase of a heartbeat in the main artery on the right side of your neck.
Right Proximal Internal Carotid Artery PSV
The highest blood-flow speed during a heartbeat in the first part of a neck artery supplying the right side of your brain and your right eye.
Right Mid Internal Carotid Artery PSV
A peak blood flow speed during heart contraction in the middle section of the right neck artery that supplies the brain.
Right Distal Internal Carotid Artery PSV
Peak systolic velocity in the distal segment of the right internal carotid artery, measured by angle-corrected spectral Doppler on a duplex ultrasound, in centimeters per second. Graded by the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound consensus criteria: under 125 cm/s normal or less than 50 percent stenosis, 125 to 230 cm/s 50 to 69 percent, over 230 cm/s 70 percent or more.
Right ICA/CCA PSV Ratio
The ratio of the highest peak systolic velocity in the right internal carotid artery to the peak systolic velocity in the mid-to-distal right common carotid artery, from a duplex ultrasound. Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound consensus: under 2.0 normal or less than 50 percent stenosis, 2.0 to 4.0 50 to 69 percent, over 4.0 70 percent or more.
Left Common Carotid Artery PSV
Peak systolic velocity in the left common carotid artery, measured by angle-corrected spectral Doppler on a duplex ultrasound of the extracranial cerebrovascular system, in centimeters per second.
Left Proximal Internal Carotid Artery PSV
Peak systolic velocity in the proximal segment of the left internal carotid artery, measured by angle-corrected spectral Doppler on a duplex ultrasound, in centimeters per second. Graded by the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound consensus criteria: under 125 cm/s normal or less than 50 percent stenosis, 125 to 230 cm/s 50 to 69 percent, over 230 cm/s 70 percent or more.
Left Mid Internal Carotid Artery PSV
Peak systolic velocity in the mid segment of the left internal carotid artery, measured by angle-corrected spectral Doppler on a duplex ultrasound, in centimeters per second. Graded by the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound consensus criteria: under 125 cm/s normal or less than 50 percent stenosis, 125 to 230 cm/s 50 to 69 percent, over 230 cm/s 70 percent or more.
Left Distal Internal Carotid Artery PSV
Peak systolic velocity in the distal segment of the left internal carotid artery, measured by angle-corrected spectral Doppler on a duplex ultrasound, in centimeters per second. Graded by the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound consensus criteria: under 125 cm/s normal or less than 50 percent stenosis, 125 to 230 cm/s 50 to 69 percent, over 230 cm/s 70 percent or more.
Left ICA/CCA PSV Ratio
The ratio of the highest peak systolic velocity in the left internal carotid artery to the peak systolic velocity in the mid-to-distal left common carotid artery, from a duplex ultrasound. Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound consensus: under 2.0 normal or less than 50 percent stenosis, 2.0 to 4.0 50 to 69 percent, over 4.0 70 percent or more.
